The Purvanchal Expressway changed that: Akbarpur now sits on a 341 km distance-tolled corridor that reaches Lucknow in one direction and Ghazipur in the other. Tanda’s cloth trade moves goods on it, pilgrim coaches to Ashrafpur Kichhauchha and on to Ayodhya use it, and commuters to Lucknow who once lost a day to the journey now do it in hours — all of them on FASTag.

The Purvanchal Expressway is closed, distance-based tolling — not a string of small plazas. Your FASTag is read when you join at an interchange and the charge for the distance you actually travelled is deducted when you leave. For a run from Akbarpur to Lucknow or east towards Azamgarh and Ghazipur, that means the balance has to cover the whole journey before you get on.
This is the single most common way drivers here get caught out: a tag with a couple of hundred rupees on it is fine on an ordinary highway and fails at an expressway exit gantry, which is the worst possible place for it. Tanda’s powerloom and cloth trade moves goods out towards Lucknow, Varanasi and beyond, and Jalalpur and Akbarpur add their own goods traffic on NH 233. For a goods vehicle, the vehicle class on the tag is the number that matters: it is set by axle count, and a wrong class means being overcharged at every plaza and every expressway exit for as long as the tag is in use.
